The gospel is the good news of a righteous, just and loving God who through Jesus Christ has chosen to reveal Himself to us and to reconcile us to Him.

In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth, man and woman and the relationship between Adam, Eve and God was perfect and harmonious, real and intimate. However, Adam chose to disobey God and sinned, and this sin separated them from the presence of God. They were banished from the garden of Eden and cursed.

The bad news is that we trace our ancestral lineage to the couple mentioned above. All of us! And not only have we inherited a sinful nature which manifests at the age of 2 (this part is a joke) when asked if you did that naughty thing and you start to lie without even knowing what a lie is, we also as sinful human beings, sin. And continue to remain separated from God.

The very bad news is that separated from God as sinners, we are storing up wrath against ourselves for the day of God’s wrath when His righteous judgment will be revealed. In fact, we are alienated from God and are considered enemies in our minds because of our evil behaviour. In this place of separation, our abode is called the dominion of darkness, our father, the father of all lies, our future, a lake of fire otherwise called Hell where the worm never dies and the fire is never quenched, and all things spiritual to us, we call foolish because without God the Spirit we cannot understand or accept the things that come from God.

The good news is that God loves us unconditionally and displayed this great love for us by sending His one and only begotten Son, Jesus Christ, to live a perfect life, and die on a cross where he took upon himself the curse and judgment of sin that is upon us. The Lamb of God took away the sins of the world.

Three days later he arose from the grave, resurrected, and spent 40 days showing himself to over 500 men and women.

He then ascended to heaven where he is seated at the right hand of God the Father. And He has promised to return. The second coming of Christ. A new heaven and a new earth. A place where there will be no more tears and no more sin. And once again, like in the beginning, a perfect and harmonious, real and intimate relationship between God and us, the bride of Christ (those who by faith have received Jesus Christ into their hearts as Lord and Saviour).

From the day we receive forgiveness of sins and salvation in Jesus Christ alone, we are adopted, restored back into his family, reconciled to God, back in a perfect, intimate and harmonious relationship where on earth we can live out this real relationship in community as part of a greater family, becoming part of a local church, growing in our knowledge of Him, not becoming a better and better person, but making wise, faithful and honourable decisions, obeying His Word with the strength and wisdom He supplies growing into greater and greater levels of maturity being transformed more and more into the image of his Son, Jesus Christ.

The very good news, is that it is by grace we are saved, through faith – and this is not from ourselves, it is the gift of God – not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus, to do good works, which God has prepared in advance for us to do.
